Film and video shoots: slate, tally, take log and call sheet

A small production office that runs from the same laptop as your prompter.

0:00 / 0:43 7 steps

Step by step

  1. Pick Film or video shoot

You get Script, Takes, Call sheet, Devices, Cues, Timer and Video.

  2. Import the script

Fountain, Final Draft (.fdx) or Word. Scenes appear as chips in Takes.

  3. Add a Slate and a Tally

In Add a device, choose Slate for a phone on the clapper and Tally for a phone by the camera.

  4. Roll, action, cut

Press R, A and C in Studio. The tally turns red while rolling, the prompter starts on action, and each take is logged with the camera settings.

  5. Wrap the paperwork

Circle good takes, then print the camera report or download it as CSV. In Call sheet, fill in the day, print it, and send a Crew screen to everyone’s phone.

Tips

  • Tap the slate to clap: it flashes and beeps for sync, and logs the timecode.
  • Make an approval link to send the plan to a client — their reply link drops straight into Studio. Tick Lock with a password to keep it private.
  • Run lines lets an actor rehearse against the other parts.

Questions

Is the slate timecode accurate enough for sync?

It shows time-of-day timecode from the phone’s clock and flashes on the clap. Use it to find sync points in the edit; it isn’t a replacement for jammed timecode.
